with Celeste Starr and her kindergartners
Over the years, I have documented the work of accomplished public school kindergarten teachers. We share a vision of making school a celebrative place and involving families as partners in joyful, authentic teaching and learning.
Here is a favorite year-end celebration. The photos tell the story!

The children sang a medley of songs in sign language, gave āloveā necklaces away to their families, and were given bubbles and a bug catcher.

One of the fathers, a former marine, carried the U.S. flag and helped lead the procession from kindergarten to the park.
Students sang and signed the Pledge of Allegiance to begin the celebration.
